"The Human Brain"

We humans are blessed by nature and are the owner of an unbelievable piece of art , a standout and unbelievable work of engineering and perhaps the only most powerful and fascinating machines on the planet; ‘The Human Brain’. This fantastic equipment is designed specifically for us, so that we would use it to craft an astounding life. Besides its apparent look which seems nothing more than a clumsy piece of meat; it is in fact ten times more complex and more efficient than the best machines made by human himself. So complex that to this day in the twenty-first century when technology is at its peak, most of its incredible characteristics are still unknown to man.

Apart from its weight of a mere three pounds, contributing approximately 2% to our body’s weight, the brain contains nearly 100 billion cells (neurons). These neurons are connected and joined together to create over 1000 trillion synapses (neural connections). That is more than the stars which we have in our entire galaxy!

These 100,000 miles of neurons are constantly in motion working together 24/7 and 365 days a year, blasting messages at 268 mph in order to manage the body, mind, thoughts, behaviors, processing information, sending responses to other parts of the body for action and therefore, controlling human’s whole life.
Neurons are of three types each designed distinctively to assist the brain in carrying out its various functions, such as:-
·         Sensory neurons cells carry information from the sensory receptor cells through the body to the brain.
·         Motor neurons transmit information from the brain to the muscles of the body.
·         Inter neurons are responsible for communicating information between different neurons in the body.
If we take a look at our brain from its energy requirement point of view, well then our amazing brain represents a very expensive piece of equipment for us to maintain. Brain consumes 20 to 25% of our total energy expenditure for its cell-health maintenance and to fuel electrical impulses that neurons utilize to communicate with one another.

Our brain is just like a super computer that is continuously working, storing memory, supervising various life processes within our body and in fact controlling the human thinking and reactions. It features some extraordinarily complicated parts that scientists are still struggling to understand.

The human brain in reality is indeed a finest and unsurpassed piece of machinery. But, it’s our misfortune or we are just unlucky that although we are blessed with this inconceivable tool but do not have a user’s manual with it. This is the very reason why some of our scientists state that most of us use only a small fraction (approximately 10% to 25%) of our brain’s total capacity or are not using it effectively. Well if this fact is true then God knows what this world would be like if every one of us starts using our brain to its full capacity, it either may be heaven for some or hell for others!

However, due to advancement in technology and after a lot of research, scientists are now starting to explore this organ better, unraveling its amazing powers. Some of the interesting facts one might want to know about our Brain are:-

·         Brain is 75% water that is why when it is dehydrated, it slows down and becomes fuzzy long before you get the symptoms of thirst.

·         Our brain can generate between 10 and 23 watts of power, which is sufficient enough to power a light bulb.

·         Humans can’t tickle themselves because their brain differentiates between external and one’s own touch.

·         A thought is a physical pathway in the brain. The MORE you have that thought, the more its path is grooved and hence it is easier to have it again.
·         There are approximately 10 to the power of 60 atoms in the universe, whereas brain has 10 to the power of 1,000,000 different ways it can wire itself up.
·         Brain of a newly born child is always disproportionately large as compared to other organs of body.
·         If blood flow to brain is stopped for only 10 seconds, a man will be dead.
·         Human brain has no pain receptors; hence if top of skull is removed and brain is pricked no pain will be felt.
·         Brain never loses the ability to learn and change because it is effectively plastic and constantly rewiring itself.
·         Brain never sleeps and always busy in working hard i.e. pumping your heart, digesting your food, maintaining your blood pressure and much more to make sure you don’t wake up dead!
·         Brain has mirror neurons. If you see someone hurt at his foot, the same pain area will light up in your own brain causing you to flinch.

Our incredible mind can become our most valuable asset but there is a catch, one must effectively practice to learn, to master in order to tap into its amazing power, if not so, then our mind might become our biggest foe. Although it is still unknown how to actually tap into its astounding power, ‘Meditation’ seems to be the only option as it has been used for centuries by the most creative, intelligent and successful people in history (like Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison etc).
Meditation is a practice whereby an individual trains his mind or induces a state of concentration or higher consciousness so as to realize some benefits. Meditation can be used for relaxation, self realization, to attain higher states of consciousness, creativity and intelligence. Creating a meditation practice is neither difficult nor time-consuming or expensive. However consistency, regularity and discipline are its pre-requisites. As one gradually start to learn how to focus his mind and control his thoughts, he will find himself making better decisions, improving the quality of life and become a better person.

Louis Brallie Biography

“Life is easy with eyes closed”
                          Jhon Lennon

Louise Braille the man who never needed to see, the man who never needed to open his eyes to find success and the man who believed that life and success are much easier with eyes closed.  He was the inventor of BRAILLE the system of reading and writing used by the people who are blind. At the age of five, he became blind and started a new journey towards the road to success without taking a look on the journey towards it.

He was born on 4th January 1809 at Couprvay France, a town 20 miles east of Paris. He used to live there along with his father, mother and three elder siblings. His father was leatherette and a maker of horse tack. As soon as he started to move on his own feet, he used to play in his fathers workshop. One day when the child was toying with some of his father’s tools and trying to make a hole in the leather. He pressed down hard to drive the point in, suddenly the tool glanced across the tough leather and stuck him in his eye. As soon as this incident came into his parent’s knowledge they took Braille to the nearby doctor who disclosed that the child’s eye is severely damaged and infected. Plus he also arranged a meeting in Paris with a highly respected surgeon but no treatment was strong enough to save the damaged eye. The child suffered immense pain for several weeks as the eye became severely infected by an infection which then travelled to the second eye. After years of treatment, Braille luckily survived the suffering of infection. By that time he became completely blind by both eyes. His parents then struggled hard to raise their youngest child as a normal child and didn’t let him feel the fact that he was blind. At the age of 10, he departed from his house as the family’s last child to leave household in 1819.

He then went to ‘Royal Institute for Blind’ in Paris for his studies. There he was made to read by a system known as ‘The Hauy System’ introduced by the schools founder in which a small library for the children was manufactured using a technique of embossing heavy paper with raised imprints of Latin but Braille found this remedy of learning quite frustrating as all the Hauy Books came in uncomfortable shapes and sizes, exquisitely delicate and very expensive to buy. Some how Braille managed to read all the books.

Braille wanted to make his own machine or system through which it would be much easier for the blind to read and write. In 1821 Charles Barbier, a Captian of French Army visited the school and shared his invention called ‘The Night Writing’, which was a code of 12 raised dots of numbers and dashes. This invention was mostly used at times of war which let the soldiers know the plan in coded words, so that the plan could be kept as a secret from the enemies. Braille got inspired with this invention and this forced him to make his own simplified version.  This is how Louis Braille wrote his name with that system for the first time.

Louis Braille worked tirelessly all day and night on his ideas and successfully completed his invention in 1824. In his invention he made a pattern on dots for each letter. These dots were capable of being recognized as letters with a single touch of a finger. He created this system by using an ‘Awl’, the same kind of implement which had blinded him. This simple method made it easy to write as well as read. He also adapted it to produce a version of the notation used in music and mathematics. He named this system "BRAILLE". Braille along with his friend Pierre Foucault went on to develop a typewriter which would make it even easier to produce text in Braille.

Braille had always been an unwell child and his condition worsened in adulthood. A persistent respiratory illness which is nowadays called Tuberculosis infected him due to which his condition reached mortal danger. He was taken back to his home in Coupvray where he died in 1852 at the age of 43.

In 1854 Braille’s System was finally adopted by the ‘Royal Institute For  Blind’ which is now known as ‘Royal National College For The Blinds’ . It also spread throughout the French speaking world but some how was quite slower in other parts of the world. New variations in Braille Technology continue to grow, including such innovations as Braille Computer Terminals, Robo Braille email delivery service, and Nemeth Braille.

Tom Thumb with a Different Ending

Starting:

Long ago in n old village lived a poor family in which there was a father the woodcutter, mother and 7 kids.they all were very poor and had little access of food as their father was a woodcutter and he didn't earn enough money to feed his whole family. The parents had 3 daughters and 4 sons and one of their sons was quite weird. He had a very small height, almost same as the height of a thumb but he was very clever and his name was Tom. One day their parents decided that at midnight they will take their children in middle of the forest and order them to cut the trees and meanwhile they would run out if the forest and then the kids would be lost so in this way when there would be less people in the home and when there would be less people  they would need less food to to feed them in this way they would slowly and slowly get richer and richer. This all was due to extreme poverty and hunger. The parents didn't knew that Tom was hearing them.

Changed:Middle till Ending

but suddenly the the woodcutter got and as he turned and looked back he saw tom hiding behind the sofa .He got very angry and planed to imprison him . Since the father was a woodcutter ,by the help of his knowledge regarding woodcutting he made a wooden cage and imprisoned him. At midnight he took all of his children except tom and did what was planned. His plan to punish tom was that he would throw him in to the river. It took the woodcutter several minutes to take kids to the forests giving tom plenty of time to break free out the cage and started his journey into the forest to trace his parents. It took him quite a while to reach the middle of the forest because of his short size.
It was raining on the way and by the time tom reached to his brothers and sisters 5 of them had died 1 sister and 1 brother were behind .Tom was very sad at the demise of his 5 brothers and sisters but there was nothing he could do.
Tom along with his 1 brother and sister traced their journey back  by following their fathers footprints as it was raining and the route was muddy so they could easily see his footprints ; as time passed by they grew up and worked harder and harder and eventually grew rich, partly because of tom as he was extremely small and attracted allot of public attraction.Once they were walking along a side of a road when suddenly some thing grabbed their attention it was an old man who was cutting woods .The man looked very familiar. When they looked further they realized that the man was their father. After further inspection they came to know that their mother was dead and their father was all alone they felt sorry for him and offered him to live with them and he gladly agreed.

Metric Results and Addmissions

As soon as the matriculation examinations results were declared there was an outburst of fresh matriculates who were looking for admission in choicest collages. The competition for admission is at the peek especially in the city of collages (LAHORE).

In comparisons with girls, boys are facing tougher competition as the number of colleges for them is half the girl’s colleges. The leading public and private colleges are trying their best to attracting students via advertisements, to get admission in their programs. According to an official GCU the metric always remain unpredictable. One can be sure that whether it would stay as it was year on increase. Due to this very reason thousands of matriculates would be denied.

Hope is like the
Sun, which as we
Journey toward it,
Casts the shadow
Of our burden

Dear Daniyal
AOA! How are the vacations going on, they might be a lot of fun as Islamabad is a great place for vacations and with all those old friends you might be enjoying a lot. My holidays were (aaaammmm) Boring you can say until an amazing movie (OLIVER TWIST) came in my way it was including in my holiday homework to this movie and write its review. When one hears this title he/she might predict that this might be a detective kind of story. There’s also a novel with the same heading which you might have read but the movie is totally different and much more interesting. It’s about a young orphan boy who experiences an adventure from which he came to know how cruel the world is. First he used work in a workhouse but later was sent to Mr.Sowerberry a coffin maker but under crucial circumstances he murdered him (as he used to abuse his parents) and ran away out of the city he walked 70 miles on foot to London there he met Jack Dwain a boy-thief who took Oliver to Fagin (the leader of the gang [PICK POCKET]) and asked Oliver to join his gang. When he went on his first outing with pick picketers 2 of the guys in the gang Stoll a man's handkerchief and Oliver was framed. However! He was proven guilty by the eyewitness and the owner of the handkerchief Mr. Brownlow takes pity on Oliver and takes him home but Fagin persuades him and now once again he is on Fagin’s side As Fagin persuades Oliver and he is on his side again. As time past Fagin and bill Sikes (a man on pickpocket gang) came to know that Oliver is in contact with Mr. Brownlow. So bill Sikes planned to kill Oliver as he thought that he might tell Mr. Brownlow about their gang but before this action could take place

Fagin accidently fall into the river but was safe and was given bed rest mean while Nancy(a women in pickpocket )told Mr. Brownlow about Oliver and for whom he is working for so after hearing that he told all this story to the police. As Sikes recovered he came to know that what Nancy did and murdered him so now all the police was against Oliver. How did he escaped, what happened next. I am not going tell that as you must watch it and know it’s ending by yourself. I will look forward for your reply.
